It seems they are steering everyone into the Modified catagory which really restricts your use , last I checked you could only use your modified collector for parades and special events. This may be great for the trailer queens and kit cars but if they were really going to support our hobby they would re-instate the "Agreed Upon Value Policy"program they cancelled a couple of years ago . Right now as it stands without that additional coverage they will treat your special collector car as if it's just another old beater and base your coverage on the depreciated value of a car from your model year . My car was creased in the lower quarter 2 summers ago by a dipshit in a parking lot and the only thing that kept them from writing it off was the fact that the guy had let his insurance lapse so they were going to recover the repair cost from him directly under the un-insured motorist plan . This was only a less than $2k repair , to a car I have @80k invested in and has a retail value now in the 30k US range based on current prices . Beware of the ICBC Smoke and Mirrors we need them to start insuring our vehicles for the actual value based on their own rigid requirements to get into the program in the first place .

This guy must be from Alberta.....you are mistaken. The Modified program does not restrict you to parades. That would be the Vintage and Antique plate. It will allow you to modify, hot rod, your muscle car. You can drive it anywhere anytime. Just not to work and to school. As for the agreed value policy, all you have to do is get an appraisal and keep it current. Keep a file of all the repairs you have made. Under insured policy is the best thing they have brought out.

No I am not from Alberta , I have had my Barracuda insured as a collector for 5 years now and had the unfortunate experience of having to file a claim with ICBC , You can keep all the records you want and appraisals are great but thats what the agreed upon value policies where for and try buying one of those from ICBC before you start talking shit on the internet , the Modified program most definitely did used to restrict use and it appears they have lifted that restriction but you are still not going to get what you think if you have a claim unless you get the third party coverage from someone like Haggarty . The under insured policy is certainly a good idea for the medical costs of you and your loved ones but does nothing for your car as you can see by this clip from the ICBC site -
How does Excess Underinsured Motorist Protection help you? If you're in a crash where the driver at fault doesn't have enough insurance, Excess Underinsured Motorist Protection will cover medical costs, rehabilitation, and lost wages for: you and all members of your household, in any vehicle* you and members of your household who are injured as pedestrians or cyclist anyone who is in a vehicle that you or members of your household own, lease or rent .

Chris....I was told the same thing "68Rick" said when I renewed my Collector plate this last year. This was direct from an ICBC employee, on the phone. They said as long as you have an appraisal done within the previous 2 years, they take that into account, if you have a total loss.
The modified collector plate allows you to modify more things on your car, and still qualify for lower rates.

So when in doubt contact someone who could be called the horses mouth. I contacted Bob Kelly , president of SVABC...here is the question I asked and his reply
Question....I have been having a discussion with a fellow that claims when the new program starts for the new modified collector plate, it will come with new usage restrictions.
ie. parade and special events usage only.
Can you comment on this claim?

Hi Rick
Thanks for the question, really appreciate questions as it a opportunity to get the facts out.
ICBC have no plans to change the policies regarding the use of Collectors Plated vehicles including Mod Collectors.
The only change that we negotiated was the change from 1958 to 1974 and of course adding the 1942 and older Replicas.
The Replicas will have a separate policy covering approval, mostly as it relates to safety.
